Key products / infrastructure
Chainlink is infrastructure that connects blockchains to data and systems that exist outside them — a function commonly referred to as an “oracle.” For tokenized assets, this connective role has become directly relevant to how those assets are priced, verified and moved.
The oracle function
Smart contracts cannot natively access information from outside their own blockchain. Chainlink’s network of independent node operators retrieves external data — market prices, proof-of-reserve attestations, interest rate benchmarks — and delivers it onchain in a form smart contracts can use. For a tokenized fund, this might mean automatically verifying that the fund’s onchain token supply matches its actual off-chain reserves.
Cross-chain interoperability
Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) is designed to let tokens, data and instructions move between different blockchain networks in a standardized way. As tokenization programs increasingly span multiple blockchains rather than a single one, this cross-chain layer has become a component several institutional pilots reference directly.
Institutional involvement
A number of banks and asset managers running tokenization proofs-of-concept have used Chainlink infrastructure for tasks like cross-chain settlement messaging or data verification, alongside its established use across decentralized finance protocols.
This profile describes Chainlink’s technical role in the tokenization landscape. It is not a recommendation to buy, sell or hold its associated token.
Key takeaways
- Chainlink provides oracle infrastructure that feeds external data, such as asset prices and reserve attestations, onto blockchains.
- Its Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) is aimed at letting tokenized assets and data move between different blockchain networks.
- Several banks and asset managers have used Chainlink infrastructure in tokenization pilot programs, alongside its long-standing role in decentralized finance.
